Native American Awareness Sunday
|
Native American Awareness Sunday recognizes and supports the contributions of Native Americans to the church and society.
|
The observance, approved by the 1988 General Conference, is one of six special churchwide Sunday offerings. The funds collected enable the United Methodist Church to partner with existing native ministries and create programs on behalf of Native Americans.
|
Native American Awareness Sunday was observed by OUMC on Sunday, April 26, 2009. Pastor Fred Shaw, who is a member of the Shawnee Tribe, lead the worship service while attired in native dress.
