Choosing to be in the Wilderness - Part 3

Today we will be looking at the third temptation by the devil.
Matthew 4:8-11 (NIV): 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Choosing to be in the Wilderness, Part 2

Today we will be looking at how Jesus responded to the second temptation by the devil. Remember that Jesus was not taken into the wilderness against his will but was led by the Holy Spirit. Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, chose to be in the wilderness. It was not a place of loneliness for him. But, it is a place of prayer and communion with God the father and the Holy Spirit. When we are in the presence of God our spiritual eyes are wide open to how the devil plays trick with our lives.

Welcome to part III of the sermon series “Builders of the Broken City: Builders of Broken Lives.” We are in chapter 3 today. We have been saying that Nehemiah rebuilt the city walls in 52 days. Nehemiah brought hope to the broken city of Jerusalem and to the broken lives of the people who had been living in fear, shame, and discouragement; demoralized for 90 years and seemed to have given up hope of ever being fully restored.
