A group has formed under the OUMC Missions umbrella to assist Afghan refugees resettling in the Cincinnati area, through partnership with Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio (CCSWOH).

Because these refugees have many physical and cultural orientation needs, CCSWOH provides an array of services to help these families adjust to life in the US. Our group has decided to assist by preparing Welcome Baskets.

CCSWOH has given us very clear instruction about the content of these baskets, which are described below. We are reaching out to the Congregation to elicit these contributions:

  1. Contribution of specific new/unused items to our Welcome Baskets set up in the bin area. These bins are organized by room type, and the list of items needed for each basket are listed below and on the side of each basket. Based on current need, we have decided to set a goal of 5 Bedroom Baskets, 3 Kitchen Baskets, and 2 Bathroom Baskets and Additional Needs.

  2. Contributions via check to support our effort. These checks will be made out to “UMC Oxford” and labeled “Afghan Refugees”. These checks can be delivered to Susan Walker at the OUMC office.

Our deadline for this drive is February 27, 2022.
