Today we will be looking at the third temptation by the devil.
Matthew 4:8-11 (NIV): 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” 10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’” 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

The devil offered all the kingdoms and the splendor of this world if Jesus would bow down and worship the devil. However, Jesus did not give into the deception of the enemy. He knew the purpose of his life on earth was to live, tell, and bring people into the Kingdom of God.

1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)

15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.

Friends, the devil is always tempting us to run after the things of this world and even give priority to the things of this world in the place of God. Anything that takes the place of God in our lives is an idol worship. Let’s give God the rightful place in our lives and worship Him alone.
